Maya <3 Paul 3.14.15

Posted on

PM_1633-LMaya and Paul was Shadowland’s first couple wedding of the 2015 season. These lovebirds actually met at a wedding and after a little prodding from Maya, the two danced the night away and led to them having a series of wonderfully awkward moments that brought them to their wedding day. Even though neither one of them grew up in the St. Joseph area and had different visions of what they wanted their wedding to look like (he wanted a converted bank venue with marble and pillars and she envisioned a casual barn feel), Paul found Shadowland online and after a visit, the rest is history.

Since they chose Super Pi Day as their date (3.1415…) it only made sense to go with a “geek-chic”  wedding theme. Every table had its own theme from Maya and Paul’s favorite things, including: Dr. Seuss, Disney, Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons, Game of Thrones, Minecraft, and many more. Maya also did a lot of DIY projects. Instead of using a florist, she utilized old encyclopedias from her mom and made flowers for the centerpieces, bouquets, and boutonnieres.  Maya also made the guest book by painting the house from Disney’s Up on a board and guests used their thumbprint to make the balloons. As a special touch, Maya’s aunt and Yiayia made her veil and headpiece from extra fabric from her dress. And, “in a blatant rip-off of a brochure [we] saw on Pinterest,” Maya and Paul put together programs called “So You’re Going to Sit Through a Wedding.”

Maya’s vows focused on how they started out “awkward and terrible” and eventually that awkwardness went away and now they get “to spend the rest of [their] awkward lives together because [she] will never give [him] up, never gonna let [him] down, never gonna run around and desert [him]…” Paul’s vows were equally as heartfelt, and he and the guests surprised Maya by all singing Adam Sandler’s “I Wanna Grow Old With You.”PM_0918-L

Cocktail hour started with a ride on the Silver Beach Carousel and their signature cocktails of Blueberry Vodka Lemonades and Irish Breakfasts were offered to guests. Instead of the traditional kiss after clinking glasses, Maya and Paul made a game out of it. After a guest rolled a 20-sided die, if they got 1-10, Maya and Paul would kiss, if they got 11-20, the guest that rolled the die had to kiss another guest. There was also a photobooth for guests to take advantage of and make unique memories to look back on for years to come.  Once dinner was over, Maya, Paul and their guests danced the night away. Shadowland feelsPM_1355-L honored to have been able to be part of Maya and Paul’s first day starting their new life together so thank you for letting us be a part of it!PM_1418-L
