Hash Tag #Help
Social media is not going away any time soon. Whether you embrace it with all your heart or avoid it like the plague, your guests as a whole will be using it on your wedding day. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, all the things! What is an easy way to gather the media in a collective spot? Use a #hashtag!
What are some things to keep in mind when determining your unique hashtag? Here are some tips:
1) Avoid the generators
More likely than not, online generators will just spit out generic #MrandMrsSmith type deals. The point of the hash tag is to be memorable and unique so when you’re searching through Instagram you can isolate just your day.
2) Embrace creativity
Everyone loves a good pun right? Get your most creative friends together, loosen up with a glass of wine (or two!) and see what happens! Having a cheeky, fun, and “punny” hash tag will make it memorable for guests to use and make them want to use it! One note to keep in mind too, don’t use hard to spell words or start to get too crazy with the spelling. When in doubt, keep it simple.
3) Let guests know it’s there!
Guests can’t use a hash tag if they don’t know you’ve made one. Sprinkle that information everywhere! On your ceremony programs, on favor tags, make signs for the bars and restrooms. Have your band or DJ announce it! Anywhere where guests can see it so they will use yours and not feel the need to make one up themselves.
General Hash Tag Tips:
Don’t use punctuation. Commas, apostrophes, special characters ($, &, %…) will cause an error in the hash tag world and cause it to end where the punctuation is. #Mr.andMrs.Smith will be #Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Numbers are okay though!
Don’t make them too long. The longer the phrase the harder it is to remember. It also helps to capitalize the start of each new word so guests (and grandma!) can easily figure out what you’re saying. #Thisisthebestdayever7618 is way easier to read as #ThisIsTheBestDayEver7618
In the grand scheme of things, this is not something to stress about for your big day. But in passing with your person and your friends, think and talk it out! It is always fun to be able to see the professional polished pictures and also to relive the more candid moments with your friends and family.
xoxo
