Marshall and Liz met at Central Michigan University in 2008 during welcome weekend. Although he was very interested in Liz, she did not give him the time of day. For three months Marshall tried to stay in contact to ask her on a date but she ignored his requests. In November of 2008, Liz and Marshall connected again at the same apartment party where they had first met, except this time his efforts did not go unnoticed. That night Marshall and Liz kissed for the first time and the rest is history. In 2011 Marshall moved to Kansas City, MO while Liz stayed in Michigan. They lived apart for almost a year trying to better their careers. Marshall proposed while on vacation in Daytona, Florida in front of several members of Liz’s family. read more

Rebecca and Walt met in 2009 while out with their friends at Howl at the Moon in Chicago. At the time, Walt was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base and was in the midst of training. He originally hailed from North Carolina while Rebecca was a Chicago native. From that first chance meeting, the two were inseparable and many train trips were made between the base and the city. However, after only a few weeks Walt had to leave for San Diego for more training. Knowing there was a real connection, the couple decided to try long distance. Six months lately and still going strong, Walt made the decision to pack up a U-Haul and move to Chicago in order to be with Rebecca. Nearly six years later, they were married in beautiful St. Joseph and chose Shadowland Ballroom to be there reception venue. We feel truly honored to be a part of their love story! read more

The unending smiles and abundant laughs which filled the Shadowland Ballroom on November 8, 2014 were all but expected from Shadowland staff when Michele and Vaughn were married. Throughout the planning process is was evident how fun the couple was, as well as how deep their love ran for one another. Finally the countdown to the wedding finally rolled to zero, and the wait was over. The Big Day had arrived…

The girls donned their pearls and brushed on their makeup as the men fastened their cuff-links and straightened their ties. The appearance of the couple’s wedding was chic and classic. The bridesmaids sported one-shouldered navy dresses and the men wore light grey suits with navy ties. The light pink rose bouquets, which enhanced the coral accents of the wedding, were designed by Flowers by Anna. read more

Mindi and Adam brought much light and love to the Shadowland Ballroom on September 14, 2014. From the very beginning stages of preparing for their wedding, it was apparent that the day’s events would be focused on sharing this part of their love story with their friends and family.

The couple was blessed with a beautiful sunny day along the shores of Lake Michigan. As the two readied themselves in their suites at the Boulevard Inn, it became even more apparent how thankful they were for their guests. Seemingly less concerned with her own preparation, the bride fluffed her bridesmaids’ dresses and brushed on makeup for her little sister. The groom spent the morning hours with those who traveled for his wedding and watching football with his groomsmen. It was a morning full of smiles, laughter, and memory-making. read more

When originally deciding on a wedding date, Samantha and Scott never intended for a winter wedding. However, after being given an amazing opportunity to serve in an orphanage and school in Malawi beginning in Spring 2014, the couple moved their wedding date from May 31, 2014 to December 31, 2013. This date change did not dissuade from any other wedding plans though, rather it increased the overall image the two shared for their special day.

The couple were married amid the beautiful stained glass windows of the same church that the bride’s parents were married. The church’s Christmas decorations added a festive touch for the perfect setting. Samantha wore  a beaded lace gown with a chapel train and veil headpiece. Scott looked dapper in a black tux paired with white shirt, tie, and vest. The couple’s love for one another and for God was apparent as friends of the couple played key roles during the service’s worship through singing and special speeches. read more

As every couple is special and unique, we at Shadowland feel you deserve your time to shine even after your Big Day has come and gone. With that being said, we would love to feature your Shadowland wedding or Southwest Michigan beach engagement in our Real Weddings section!

If you would like your story or picture(s) to be considered for publication, you (or your photographer) can send color or B&W images to Ashley at awall@sbshadowland.org.

Featured weddings generally have occurred in the Shadowland Ballroom within the past year. This may include Silver Beach Carousel, Whirlpool Fountain, and Silver Beach Park photographs as well. Engagement sessions are asked to have been taken in Southwest Michigan. Ideally the engagement photographs include a few beach shots (whether they be on Silver, Tiscornia, Weko, or any other SWMI beach), but other local locations (Downtown St. Joseph, Benton Harbor’s Art District, various vineyards, etc.) are welcomed!
