Top Ten: Summer 2014

Posted on

The wedding season has been in full swing here at the Shadowland Ballroom. With over thirty beautiful weddings completed this summer, we saw a lot of new and inspiring ideas pass through our walls and want to share them with you! Here are ten of our top favorite ideas which took place in the Ballroom this past season:

1. Unique Table Numbers

From bride+groom photographs to open seating, table numbers are no longer 1, 2, 3. Our bride from the wedding shown below is an English teach and decided to letter the tables rather than number — how awesome!

2. Leave a Note

A popular trend among wedding-goers nowadays is to leave written advice or commentary for the bride+groom. In addition to its vibrant colors, this wedding’s theme centered around the sea and guests were asked to write a message and place it into the bottle, which was a centerpiece for every table.

3. Real-Book Guestbook

What’s better than saying congratulations to the bride+groom in their guestbook? Congratulating them in a theme-inspired real-life authored book! Now your message won’t be discarded after a few years when the wedding bliss has decreased, but rather they will be seen every time the book is removed from the book shelf and read.

4.  Ice Cream Bar

Remember in June when we mentioned going away from the traditional wedding cake and choosing cupcakes instead? Why not take the extra step and just rent some soft-serve ice cream machines and pair them with brownies, sprinkles, and hot fudge? You’ll guests will love it!

5. Who Wears the Cake?

Wish the newlyweds a happy and fun marriage by helping decide who gets cake on their face by leaving your extra change in the respected glasses. What a cute idea!

6. Simply Elegant Centerpieces

It’s just a fact that when it comes to reception decor, all eyes will be on the tables. These summer-inspired floral centerpieces sit nicely against crisp white linens and neutral backdrop. The choice of seasonal flowers adds a vibrant look that is both subtle and elegant.

7. Assorted Bold-Colored Candy Bar

Candy bars have been all the trend for the past few years, and it’s not surprising why: they are fun, allow for personal touches, and make pretty awesome photo ops! Megan+Edward’s wedding holds to the biggest rule while designing a candy bar: keep cohesive with a theme and color scheme. This was so visually captivating that guests didn’t want to touch it!

8. Sparkling Dune Photograph

What is visually more interesting than concrete? Beach grass, of course. Add sparklers like Caroline+Chris did and here’s your result: a fantastically romantic photograph.

9. Large Bow Chair Sashes

We absolutely love Susan who does our chair coverings and sashes, but can we just gush about this large bow she has mastered! How regal..

10. Non-Traditional Wedding Cupcakes

There’s no denying it, cupcakes are in and we could not be more thrilled at Shadowland. This beautiful design of white, chocolate, and marbled cupcakes was a great concept and the trend to stray from traditional cakes keeps going strong.
